How Etsy fees work
Worked example with the US defaults: a $25 item with $5 shipping charged is a $30 order. Etsy takes a $0.20 listing fee, a 6.5% transaction fee ($1.95) and payment processing of 3% + $0.25 ($1.15), so $3.30 in total. If the sale came from an Offsite Ad, add 15% ($4.50). Subtract your cost of goods ($8) and real shipping cost ($4.50) and you keep $14.20, a 47.3% margin.
FAQ
- Does Etsy charge fees on shipping?
- Yes. Etsy's 6.5% transaction fee applies to the item price plus the shipping you charge (and gift wrapping, if offered), so a $25 item with $5 shipping pays 6.5% of $30 = $1.95.
- What is Etsy's payment processing fee?
- For US shops using Etsy Payments it is 3% + $0.25 per order. Rates differ by the country of your bank account. In the US the percentage can also apply to sales tax collected, which this calculator does not include.
- What is the Offsite Ads fee?
- It applies only to orders that came from an Etsy Offsite Ad: 15% for shops that have always made under $10,000 in any 365-day period (they can opt out), or 12% for shops that have reached $10,000 (participation is required). The fee for one order never exceeds $100.
- How much is the Etsy listing fee?
- $0.20 per listing. Listings expire after four months, and a listing with multiple quantities renews for another $0.20 each time one sells.
- How does the target price work?
- It finds the item price where net profit divided by the order total (price plus shipping charged) equals your target margin, after all fees, your cost of goods and your shipping cost. It is rounded up to the next cent.
